For money, the binomial functional globalization-war supports a policy of extermination of certain ethnic groups. It is necessary and urgent to disarm the apparatus of capitalist propaganda and likewise the concealed operations directed to the destabilization of some region of the world to create a military market: Michel Chossudovsky, writer and Professor of economy at the University of Ottawa, Canada.

The capitalism itself is an opponent to the life, not only by its logic of infinite accumulation in a planet of limited resources, but in its way to proceed against individuals. The objective of the society shouldn't consist only of fighting for humanizing the globalization, but also in surpassing the capitalism one socializing the democracy: Victor Flores, writer, former diplomatic and dean of the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)

We need to redefine the concept of rationality, currently related to the binomial cost-benefit and to replace it for another essential binomial of the humankind: life-happiness. The capitalism puts in risk that pillar, becoming itself in irrational: Enrique Dussel, Argentine philosopher. Active Member of the National System of Researchers of Mexico (SIN) since 1996.

If the current system is committing genocide for money, among its management counts perfectly fits a nuclear war or the extermination of certain ethnic groups. It is exactly at this point where seven years of World Social Forums just stay relating the tragedies of the majorities, but without a concrete action plan. The civilization crisis could be the way out of the capitalist system.
By Jose Osvaldo Torres/Seinforma Canada Correspondent
Mexico F.D. The World Social Forum (WSF) has got, as an indirect origin, the encounter carried out in Chiapas the last decade and in the Seattle demonstrations of 1999, in front of the delegates of The World Bank (WB), being this the source of an Intercontinental movement, in some cases pointed out as globally-phobic.
The first WSF would be formed and developed in the year 2001, in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, organized by the International Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions to Aid Citizens (ATTAC) and the Workers of Brazil’s Party (PT).
The WSF is, essentially, a reaction against the partial globalization of the material benefits from the capitalist production and the worldwide propagation of its environmental, social and economic catastrophes. This year, the WSM is being developed in different parts of the planet under the slogan: Another world is possible. The conferences in Mexico were chaired by social researchers from Mexico, Argentina and Canada.
In 2004, the WSF moved to Mumbai, India, and returned the following year to Porto Alegre. By 2007 Nairobi, Kenya, was chosen the hostess city; but, in the meanwhile, other forums in every continent of the planet would be spread out.
For this year 2008, the WSM is developed in different parts of the planet under the slogan: Another world is possible. In the conferences of Ciudad of Mexico, among other round tables, it was discussed the crisis of civilization and the end of the neoliberal model, chaired by social researchers from Mexico, Argentina and Canada.
The WSF is, essentially, a reaction against the partial globalization of the material benefits from the capitalist production and the world propagation of its environmental, social and economic catastrophes. The ways of protest, exigency and ways of demand solutions to the conditions of any sector can be part of a structural ritual of a system benefited by the collective action if we do not realize the precise objective of our actions, so as to avoid the systemic absorption we need to make clear to whom we are going against, or rather which are the mechanisms we need to tear down.
According to Victor Flores Olea, author and professor at the Universidad Autonoma of México (UNAM), capitalism is, in itself, opposite to life for its logic of endless accumulation in a planet where resources are limited and, even more, in its way of proceeding over the people.
However, it opens a basic question about the meaning of the actual crisis of civilization: is it the end of capitalism or neoliberalism?
“We must inform” mentions Victor Flores Olea “neoliberalism is another structural chapter of capitalism; that chapter can be closed, but still continue with the capitalist deed, which has gained more territorial and demographic influence, as it is in China, where contradictions on its economic growth are bigger than the ones of the XIX century, as the Chinese economic growth in the environmental, child work and, even, semi slavery deterioration is being maintained.
However, the wage-earner are facing up to their problems, organising theirselves collectively, but their aim should not consist of shaping the human face of globalization but overcoming capitalism, socializing democracy, conquering, for general benefit, the technological development, which is in very few hands nowadays. Admitting the large diversity of antisystemic movements, the same speaker suggests a common alliance through the only aim of overcoming capitalism”.
Imperialism is illegal
Subsequently, John Saxe-Fernandez, in his intervention, begins by warning “Mexico is not subdued to globalization, but to American imperialism. The imperialist actions are illegal” he highlighted in an accusing way, and continued “so the social analysis suggests that it must be based in two key concepts: imperialism and fight amongst classes. This last one should be questioned under the actual social complexity, confronting the daily imperialist actions under the judgement of ethics”.
He mentions a concrete case: the abolition of a big proportion of the political rights in The United States of America, based on the Patriotic Law, formulated by the actual President George W. Bush, synthesizing the civilization crisis under which we live.
For his part, Enrique Dussel starts by considering neoliberalism as the last rasping breath of a system of about five thousand years, with only five hundred years of growing and two hundred of development during the modernism.
There is where we are at the present time, perceiving its end. This due to the limits of the planet earth’s resources, seriously changing round the fundamental basis of unlimited progress, denouncing the way in which the negative effects of this logic are never entered in the books by the companies which explode most of the natural resources.
He mentions, afterwards, the necessity of re-defining the concept of rationality, subject, in the actuality, to the couple cost-benefit, and proposes, instead, that its base should be concentrated in another couple: life-happiness of mankind. At the moment, capitalism is attempting against this two mankind’s welfare pillars, turning it into irrational. The first speaker points to the union of the diversity of the social movements to confront capitalism, but, at the same time, he also suggests the existence of leaders as a leverage of action and not of submission, so he mentions that we do not have to fear leadership, on the contrary, it is necessary to find it and develop it under the parameters of democracy.
Economy, war and globalization
Michel Chossudovsky, prolific writer in subjects of globalization, starts his participation by informing that the basis of the system is in the impoverishment of the population to subtract the biggest yields, and still the functional couple globalization-war maintains a politic of extermination of certain ethnic sectors aiming the monetary profit, so it is necessary, if not urgent, to disarm the capitalist advertising machine as well as the undercovered operations aimed at the destabilization of some regions of the world, in order to create a war market where the occidental gun racks, mainly the Americans, obtain numerous profits through the war. The denunciation as the basis of our antisystemic actions gives the chance of formulating another world, he concludes.
From insanity to awareness
Finally, Pablo Gonzales Casanova, as well as Victor Flores Olea, emphasizes on whether we are fighting against neoliberalism or capitalism, the first one just being another episode tending to end , keeping the capitalism active as a historical and functional system; that is why the objective should be concentrated in capitalism and not in the search of suitable changes. So, the first step is to move from insanity to awareness, searching the encounter among the different social fights to pass from the particular to the general interest, to work in this union is essential and its middle ground is the fight against a system prone to extermination, that is why it is relevant the recovery of the memory for the reformulation of the individual identity.
According to that, the speaker mentions the redefinition of the class struggles, as John Saxe-Fernandez had proposed it in the same table, furthering it in the matter by pointing it out not only in the Marxist-Leninist tradition, meaning in the figure of the proletariat, but in the poor of the land, where the difference is multiplied keeping with the new ways of capitalist exploitation, being the information systems just a visible example of that; therefore, the speaker invites to the constant update of our knowledge to keep up with the capitalist advance, giving the necessary freshness to the antisystemic collective action.
Conclusion
The lessons obtained are valuable theoretically to formulate proposals and shape an alternative language, capable of visualizing a world intended to political and economical freedom and to equality before the law, capable of spreading the social rights to the cultural differences. They are valuable, as well, in a practical sense by noticing an approach we could use as a guide to act in a political way in favour of a substantial improvement on our living conditions.
The main point to consider is the distinction between capitalism and neoliberalism, the aim is not restructuring capitalism and finishing the neoliberalist policy; without a doubt, lessen its vicissitudes would be really helpful to improve life of big sectors of the population, maybe that would be the first step: stay alive with capitalism to be able to overcome to it afterwards, but we do no have to forget this objective, firstly, capitalism is incompatible with life, an example of that are the industrial blows against nature, and, another, is its way of ideal life, which is not compatible with the planet either, for basing itself on an unlimited consume of resources which has resulted in the global warming, in other words, the gradual end of the basic atmosphere conditions for our lives as species.
Moreover, it is also opposite to the freedom, both economical and politically necessary, for the democratisation of the materialist living conditions; firstly the ones benefited from a supposed free market are the big monopolies who practise a sort of dictatorship by imposing prices to natural resources same as to the merchandise manufactured under the criteria of its own particular interest without mediating in the collective benefit, an example of this is the pharmaceutical sector, where the big laboratories, such as Bayer, produce the essential retrovirals for the treatment against AIDS but, under the pretext of earning more capital to sustain their researches, they inflate the prices in such a way that they turn it out unreachable for most of the infected persons, without taking into account their social need.
Very good, they can have their profits and give a social benefit, but this is not possible when they are protected by politics, promoting this kind of practises to the big international companies, not being the state policy a guarantor of the common good anymore, although it has never been, but now, under the speech of liberalization, it tends to throw the population to the actions of a delimited market for a few companies.
Another point to take into account is the influence, on the territory and on the population, of the capitalism, being global for having scarce chances of opposition from its old enemy, the communism, and the state elimination of fascism (but not cultural) promoting their cultural ideology under the logic of the unique speech, where this way of life rises as the ideal of the one to reach and it is accepted like that by the great majority. It is here where the critical attitudes fail for not being able to promote theirselves in a massive way to rebuild that so desired and necessary, for the survival of mankind, other possible world. If the actual system is genocide, among its management counts, perfectly feat a nuclear war or the extermination of certain ethnic groups.
It is exactly at this point where seven years of World Social Forums just stay relating the tragedies of the majorities, but without a concrete plan of action, it has already been four years since the designation of Immanuel Wallerstein asking for a political action to be taken, and we keep on waiting for it (and, in a small way, putting it together).
The civilization crisis could be the way out of the capitalist system, so we can move to another system, which would share its benefits among the majorities. Are we going to allow the catastrophe happens or we are already doing it so?
