A Criminal Dynasty
Some incidents clearly reflects the attachment or the Fujimori family members to power and crime. During Alberto’s first ruling in the early 90’s, the former First Lady Susana Higushi denounces that the president’s brothers were stealing from donations. Further allegations come to light regarding abuse and torture  against her. Now, it’s been confirmed that in 1999, Keiko Fujimori got US$327,325 from the sale of her father’s property and withdrew them in 2001.

“Sashi and Hiro have never participated in the political arena but Keiko became First Lady during the end of her father’s regime and knows how to deal with the media and how to gain people’s consent. There have been attempts of involving the younger child Kenyi in the party, but his participation has not been important, but clumsy instead.”
That event would mark one of the most corrupt eras of Peruvian history; the scourge of civil terrorism would be resolved with terrorism of state for which in 2009 Fujimori has been condemned to 25 years of prison for crimes against humanity.

An almost parallel state had been established, which was administered by his advisor Vladimiro Montesinos; who bought editorial lines from local media, manipulated the Judicial System  and bribed congress members. Besides, construction works and military weapons purchases were overvalued, for which Fujimori was also condemned to 7 years of effective prison for stealing money from the Peruvian State.

He has always boasted of being an austere person, expressing he only earned $2,500 Peruvian soles per month (US$833) during his ruling that, together with the sale of an estate in the year 1999, helped him paying for the overseas education of his children Sashi, Keiko, Hiro and Kenya.

The real expenditure summed a total of up to US450,000 per year. Not only that, since their father’s resignation to the Presidency of Peru, appealing to his Japanese nationality - which he had always denied - and sought refuge in Japan until the year 2005, the children’s travel expenses totaled an amount of US$114,000.

Citibank has confirmed that in the year 1999, Keiko Fujimori had deposited US$327,325 from the sale of her father’s property and withdrew them in the year 2001 when she and her siblings had got graduated already. So where did the money used for paying for their education really come from?

In the year 2006, Keiko Fujimori is elected congress woman for the political party Si Cumple, one of many Fujimoristas movements; she is elected by an overwhelming majority; but, since the Peruvian vote is preferential and she was first in the lists, it was expected to be that way. From here on, they started calling her the political successor

Sashi and Hiro have never participated in the political arena but Keiko became First Lady during the end of her father’s regime and knows how to deal with the media and how to gain people’s consent. There have been attempts of involving the younger child Kenyi in the party, but his participation has not been important, but clumsy instead.

There is an incident which clearly reflects the attachment or Fujimori’s power with his relatives. During the commencement of his first term in the early 90’s, the former First Lady Susana Higushi denounces that the president’s brothers were stealing part of a Japanese donation (second hand clothing), which not only results in a scandal and fracture of the marriage, but further allegations come to light regarding abuse on behalf of Alberto against Susana; she accuses him of physical and emotional torture, threats with knives and, furthermore, including the fact that she feared being given poisoned food.

She left the palace, where she was held against her will and she wasn’t seen along with her children for a long time; in fact, which is even more surprising, none of them displayed any sign of concern.
Only that, once Susana stopped talking about the incidents within the palace, she did get reunited with her children again. In return of love she preferred silence.

No proposals from Fujimoristas parties at all

Alberto Fujimori, after so many twists, is once again in Peru and has been convicted in three trials and continues being tried for four other crimes. Despite of that, we shouldn’t ignore the large number of people that still sympathize with him; neither deny, that within its political structure, there are many cracks and holes which are almost insurmountable.

It seems that the only point in common is Keiko Fujimori, the newly recent mother and congress woman, who wields the banner of her father’s innocence and promises that as soon as she gets elected President of Peru, she will grant pardon to her father. In Lima we can already see several graffiti that read: “Keiko President -Release Fujimori!

Ask yourself: What has Keiko done politically in order for her to become President of Peru? Nothing. As simple as that. Fujimorism, as brigade, only has interfered in the balance of votes against others governments’ proposals (expecting something in return?) but as a political group has not proposed any important bill.

Keiko Fujimori has not taken advantage of her congressional position for building a stronger personality, but rather has remained in congress for defending her father. If she leads the polls for possible winners for the 2011 elections, is only due to the fact that she is campaigning since now, action which we believe is futile. We do not believe she will win solely for the reason that she is someone’s child. But, anything can happen, here in Peru.

Villa María del Triunfo, Perú.-  The surname Fujimori is not a common one in Peru. However, it has become a reference throughout its history.

20 years ago, Alberto Fujimori, an outsider, was able to force a second turn in the presidential elections, in which he would win over his opponent, the author Mario Vargas Llosa.
