HIGH SPEED TRAIN CAUSES CONTROVERSY IN ARGENTINA
The privilege of being
first class passenger
                                                       (Photo misionesonline.net/Seinforma)
The current  conditions of public transport in Argentina, mainly by train, are inhuman. The workers travel exactly the same or even worse than the livestock, squeezed and with the uncertain destiny of not knowing if they will be able to return home due to the lack of constancy on the service.
Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner signed a contract with the French private firm (TAV) which gives green light to the “Bullet Train” project, which links the cities of Buenos Aires-Rosario and Cordoba. The project is thought for a reduced number of elite passengers, to an inaccessible cost for the majority, outside the big urban centres and with no stops in most of the intermediate cities.

By Facundo Pérez/Seinforma Canada Correspondent

Buenos Aires.-
The subject has generated different opinions about the carrying out of this new project. Amongst them, some NGO were the first ones in shooting against the government, for considering the train a luxury in a country subdued to the “ferricidio” with the closing of branches and, consequently, the abandoning of railway stations, of villages and of occupations, which is summed up in two words: corruption and poverty.
However, it is always necessary to hear both of the bells and, for this purpose, it is necessary to clarify that the government claims this train will give new work places to 5,000 persons and that, somehow, another 2,000 will be affected while the project is being carried out.
On the other hand, environmental organizations understand that “the project is thought for a reduced number of elite passengers, to an inaccessible cost for the majority, outside the big urban centres and with no stops in most of the intermediate cities”.
The Queen of the Argentineans signed a contract with the French private firm (TAV) to give green light to the “Bullet Train” project. The future train will link the cities of Buenos Aires, Rosario and Cordoba; its carriages will have double floors and will be able to reach a velocity of up to 300 km/hour.
The formations will be of eight coaches and will transport between 500 and 600 passengers. They will be divided into two classes: Premium (%35) and tourist (%65). The Premium carriages will have three seats per line, while the Tourist Class will have four seats per line. But, despite the difference in comfort, all the coaches will be equipped with air conditioning, individual lights and reclining tables.
I consider very important to highlight that not always progress comes with a positive attachment. I mean that the progress of a terminal disease, cancer or tumour, is definitely negative. And here is where I make pause. Not to mince words. Progress to whom? To the demagogic ones?
In a country where the word Progress seems not to exist or it is something always related to failure. The conditions of public transport (trains mainly) are inhuman. The workers travel exactly the same or even worse than the livestock, squeezed and with the uncertain destiny of not knowing if they will be able to return home due to the lack of constancy on the service, the rottenness of the coaches, the insecurity (more than a daily matter), the “every man for himself”.
But the only thing we can envy cows is safety. They travel safe and with no risks of falling deliberately because of a shove to emptiness. There are numerous cases of deaths that have been produced because of desperate people who travel hanging from the steps, because there is no other choice more than resigning oneself and fighting for ones rights. And that is how we are killed, when we should be protected. There are a lot of things missing in the trains, above all: Investments.
Yes, investments in decent transport to cover distances; I am not asking for air conditioning, but for safety, constancy of the service and, above all, DIGNITY.
There is a meaning that is summed up in the word “Priority”, where to invest the money collected, at the expense of their pathetic and calamitous capitalism, in trains from the provinces, education and health. Priority and not demagogy.
By the way, do not forget the number of deaths of kids from the provinces for malnutrition (information that is hidden from us), all the ghost villages that look like the period of the tyrannical leaders (although they still exist, as for example the manageress of the executive power), kids daily packed in the main train station (Retiro). And, if they knew how to collect even more funds, or rather stopped stealing, they would not obstruct exportations with growing fascist measures.
If someone does not want to eat, allow him not to work; but what for those ones who can not reach it? And after all, nobody cares if their daughter spends $100,000 for a holiday in Pinamar and her mother spends a similar budget in holidays, with private jets, millionaire buying abroad and “gorillas” willing to execute whoever gets in their way.
To all this statements, the one of the common goods must be included, which is being trampled. How many people will travel with the cost of the ticket? Just the elite. And how many people travel in the modern, technological and ostentatious new train that was inaugurated in Puerto Madero? Not much. Is this goin to be another of those trains? There was a train built, in which some more millions were spent, placed metres away from where the main railways converge, people die (not metaphorically speaking) to get to work and all this for the elite class to be able to travel in a nonsense train. Thank you for understanding.
This government has definitely demonstrated an irritating tendency to not know how to evaluate on a correct way the priorities and urgencies of the citizens, and this case is not the exception.
To our incompetent president, I ask with vehemence to control and “tighten”, on the way she considers necessary, the transport companies, to whom the concession of trains was sold to.
The trains are in the hands of private companies, that fact is not denied. But the state can not wash its hands of it; on the contrary, it must intervene in the companies and do what considers necessary to normalize the services.
Definitely, our country is made for tourism. And the measure does not result completely negative, as many strong incomes can be considered for our economy. But do not let tourism be at the expense of our poverty. NO to the tours to shanty towns, uninhabited trains, ghost villages, reactionary cities.
Say no to the ghost train; yes to the improvement of our public services. It is a matter of logic. The project is not wrong. But there is something that, I insist, is called “priority”.
It is similar to the purchase of a plasma television worth CAD$2,000, while, in the house, the walls have humidity, there is no gas or light, the floors are broken, it is in danger of falling into peaces, the bed is broken and the month ends just with rice and beans to eat.
I think it is a simple question and it is expressed clearly: Cristina, modify your demagogic politic.  If considered necessary, and I am not far away of it, I would not mind watching you leave the Rosada-Government House-in a helicopter.
